Remove Free Parking for Council Executives

GCC executives and Senior management should not be provided with free parking spaces in the City Centre, they should be paying like every other person has to do to park in Glasgow. If GCC were to start charging their exercutives and senior management, i'm sure this would generate quite a fair bit of income. If everybody else can afford this on their basic salaries, i'm sure that the high earning senior management can more than afford to contribute to this.

I can't help but feel GCC seniors who enforce these parking regulations accross the city and empoy the traffic wardens to carry out their duties to ensure these regulations are met, should be liable to make payment.

Why the contribution is important

It generates income and helps towards the savings which have to be made. It is a dated rule people should have free parking.

Every Quango official and every government official, including councillors, who work in Glasgow should be paying for their parking.

Council Leader Frank McAveety could end all free city centre parking for council officials tomorrow if he wanted to, but like so many previous Labour council leaders he chooses not to do so.

He is also unable to tell us what benefit the taxpayer accrues from these people having free parking spaces in town, because there aren't any.

I wasn't actually aware that Council execs get free parking in town - this definitely has to go.

If everyone else pays for their parking, no one should be exempt. Possibly an idea that will fall on deaf ears - can't see the Councillors agreeing to take away their free parking.

Totally agree with this. Why should those earning the most not be subject to those earning the least. The council feel staff working on min wage should pay for parking and run the gauntlet of finding a cheap space but its ok for Senior executives who probably only work 2-3 days a week at a site to get a free ticket. I support the removal of this Perk.

I'm not how much of this goes on but any amount is too much. Councillors and Council Officials need to remember that every penny they spend is a penny that come sout of someones pocket. the money/ revenue is not theirs but entrusted to them to make good use of on behalf of the citizen's of Glasgow. Time to pay your way!

If this is true it is a disgrace. The people at the top should be paying like everyone else. Parking charges bring in huge revenues for GCC and the very people who enforce these fees are avoiding paying them.

Of course if these top council and quango officials can explain how their free city centre parking spaces which must be saving them about £50 per week in parking fees, benefit the taxpayer by increasing efficiency, and decreasing both city centre air pollution and congestion levels then the logical thing to do would be to introduce more of them.

However I don't think many of us will be expecting that explanation to be coming soon
