Reduce Reuse Recycle

The council buys in compost, plant material and wood chips every year at a cost to the council and thus the people of Glasgow.  At the same time we collect leaves, chip felled trees, collect christmas trees, burn shrubs and trees, prune and lop bushes/trees and cut grass.

It would seem that there is a great opportunity to create compost and wood chips, use felled trees to make simple benches or signposts and a great many other opportunities, which are currently lost and spoiled.

If we had nurseries that collect seeds and bring on flowers, trees and plants, we would save needless expense and could encourage the public to do likewise through events and create a community involved and driven council.

One of GCC's aims is to reduce landfill but creates landfill of its own by not fully endorsing recycling at all of its properties - provide recycling bins and better recycling uplift within and outwith council properties; on the street and to shops and other properties (we are lagging behind all other councils).

Why the contribution is important

  • Cost Saving
  • Reduce Reuse Recyle
  • Increase awareness of the Environment
  • Improve the face of the council
  • Involve the community
