Adaptations for disabled people

SWS OT dept has to order all adaptations thru Assisted Living (city building) this includes bathrooms, handrails, ramps. The charge a management fee plus charge excess amounts for adaptions. They use the same company's that were on GCC approved contractor list. Please cut out the middle man and go back to the old tender system so ppl can get adaptation to their home to make them safe in the community, the funds available will stretch further, and maybe prevent hospital admissions.

Why the contribution is important

The disabled people of glasgow and council tax payers deserve a good service. People are confined to their home as they can't get funding for a ramp ( a ramp covering x2 steps can cost £6-£8k )

I am flabbergasted at £6k-8k for a ramp!! My mother is in Highland Council region and a new accessible platform and steps (4 shallower steps onto a 1.2 x 1.2m platform level with the house) cost £2k of which she had to contribute £400.

Need to scrutinise tenders further and to ensure that Best Value is being obtained for the Council taxpayer.
