Close libraries, charge for museum entry & sell off land

In the age of the smartphone and internet there is a world of information at our fingertips - Libraries are outdated and unnecessary in the modern world.  They should be closed to save money and the buildings sold off to private interest.

I also am aware of the city's backwards/ideological standpoint on not charging for museum entry (where every other major city in the world does) and the sense of righteousness it seems to get from this.  Personally, like libraries, I see no need for museums in the modern climate (againas everything is viewable online) ... However if they are to stay then they should come with an entry fee.

Finally I would sell off reasonable chunks of Glasgow's many parks and open spaces for private development.  This would attract a handsome price, particularly a section of Kelvingrove in the affluent west end.

Why the contribution is important

It is modern, makes sense and would save vast volumes of money.

The time for pretentiousness and ideological backwardness has come to an end, money is more important.

Selling off land would also in the long run create more housing - more income from tax.

    Dear billybotox,

You forget the fact that parks, museums and libraries are such amenities that makes a city more livable. Glasgow is blessed with such green spaces and world famous museums. Selling these things are short-minded ad plainly against the people.
I really liked the "People make Glasgow" campaign. I would use this slogan again: "People make Glasgow greener, more intellectual and happier." And Glasgow's name has its very meaning: "a nice green place"!

Rather than selling our common land and valuables, we should invest in increasing efficiency. I think reorganizing and reevaluating the delegated power of the Council, we could safe a big chunk of the budget decrease. But that is my opinion only.

What a ghastly idea. Not all literature is available online or in e-book format, and even if it were, e-books can be very expensive.

We need libraries as much as ever.

    Terrible idea.

I think this is a wonderful idea. I myself have also advocated this too if you look closely.

Nobody really reads mouldy old books nowadays and people look at facebook & twitter 95% of the time.

All books are available in ebook formats.

52000 ebooks are free from Gutenberg as their copyright has expired.

Museums should be sold of to private interests or better still all the paintings should be auctioned off and the buildings sold of to private developers. This would easily generate many hundreds of millions of pounds.
